 Book Review:

 Otherworld was a book that was getting a lot of hype at YALC this year where I managed to get an ARC partly because of the author but also because of it's interesting Virtual Reality concept. I found Otherworld to be a highly entertaining read but did have some problems with the characters. 

 Otherworld's plot was a major draw to this book for me as I have read the book's like Ready Player One in the past but I didn't really like that book so wanted to try a different way of telling the story. I did enjoy the story that was being told and it was fast-paced and really enjoyable to read. I felt like when I was invested in the story, I didn't want to get pulled out of the story. There were many twists and turns in this book which kept me on edge and I did just want to keep on reading. The book also does end of somewhat of a cliff-hanger so I would like to carry on reading the sequel when it comes out.

 I also did enjoy the writing style. It felt very cohesive which was nice and didn't feel like there were two separate voices on the page. It also reads well and was nice and I felt like I could hear the characters through the writing and that was something good. 

 I feel like the main problem I had with this book was its characters. I didn't really love Simon. There were some things that were written that I just didn't like and I didn't think his character was really lovable. I often thought that for the main character we don't get a fleshed out version of him on the page. He is meant to be the hero and that's it. Although I did like the side characters again I don't think they were well developed. We get to know about the Kat and Simon relationship but we don't get to know Kat and I wish she was more developed throughout the story. She was just the girl that Simon loves and has to save. The side characters he finds in Otherworld also feel really weak and that they can be thrown away at any moment and then as the reader we are meant to feel emotion. My main problem was definitely the characters.

 The Verdict:
Overall, Otherworld is a good book that blurs the lines between real life and reality that will leave you hooked for beginning to end and will leave you wanting more.

Popsugar Reading Challenge 2021 Wrap Up
