About Amy Hello, I'm Amy, an aspiring motorsports writer and former blogger. If you dig deeper enough, you find some very old blog posts, as this started as a book blog, but that's really where I got my start in writing: book reviews, hot book topics and as well as the odd personal essay. After leaving university, I left the book blog behind, but continued writing and going in the world of social media, writing film reviews and promoting queer cinema, but after a tragic event in my personal life, I quickly discovered Motorsports. What started as a love for Formula 1, while finally watching the Formula 1 film, Rush, and discovering Formula 1 TikTok, this love soon expanded to everything Formula E, IndyCar, Formula 2, Formula 3, as well as F1 Academy. I soon found the itch to write come back, with the fast-moving news of motorsport, to the drama, the competition, and the journey of drivers trying to find a race seat. Number 10: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
I really liked this book. The characters in this book were amazing and really enjoyable. The plot was really fast-paced and entertaining and it was really well-written. I need to read the Mime Order soon and I mean soon. Number 9: Cress by Marissa Meyer
I love the Lunar Chronicles series so when I read this early this year, I knew that it would make my favourites. I was well written and has characters that are really shippable and I am currently reading Winter and I know that it will make this list as well.
Number 8: North of Porter by Kirkland Ciccone
This was my most recent read and it still made my favourites. It was an amazing book which was part of the #WeirdYA that Kirkland Ciccone has created and this makes it highly enjoyable and just a really great book.
Number 7: The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
So this year I read other Patrick Ness books and I enjoyed them but for some reason this one was my favourite. This book was really good, it goes against the chosen one trope which is something new and exciting which did actually work really well in the novel and the plot itself was really engaging and dealt with the mental illness of characters in a really good way. Patrick Ness with this book suggests that even people with normal lives can be extraordinary.
Number 6: A Work In Progress by Connor Franta
I am still so confused why I love this book so much, but I guess I just do. This is the only Youtuber book that made this list even though I have read 2 other books this year too. This one was just Connor in a nutshell and was a highly addictive read.
Number 5: Alex and Ada by Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn
2015 was the year when I started to read more and more comic books and one of my favourites was that of Alex and Ada. Alex and Ada was a highly enjoyable plot and really nice artwork and I am going to read volume 3 of this series soon because I really loved it.
Number 4: Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
Yet another graphic novel that I really loved this year. Nimona was on the long side but this did not make it any less enjoyable, in fact it added to the experience as it meant that the large fantasy world got to be explored even more and for a graphic novel I loved I did not want to leave the world. The characters were also really enjoyable and the artwork was so beautiful. Nimona is a really great graphic novel and is good for anyone who is trying to get into graphic novels.
Number 3: Night Owls by Jenn Bennett
I picked this up at YALC thinking that it would be just another contemporary that I would read this year. Boy was I wrong! This book was so,so much more. It was a romance story that did not have instalove and the romance was slow burning. It had likable characters which I fell in love with. It was so addicting that I ended up walking home while reading this book because I wanted to finish it badly. Just so good!!!
Number 2: The Death House by Sarah Pinborough
When reading this I did not expect this to be in my favourite books of the year. I thought it was a horror, it is not a horror... It was so much more. This is a book that even though I read and finished it in the summer, it is one that I will never forget. So good!!!!
Number 1: Holly Bourne
I know, I know. This is not a book, this is an author, but I cannot pick between the two books of Holly Bourne that I read this year. Both Am I Normal Yet? and the Manifesto of How to be Interesting are my favourite books of this year. They are both so poignant in the way that they deal with teenage life and mental health. They are just so good, they are definitely firm favourites of all time in my book. What are you top ten favourite books this year?
